Urgent Initiative: Nourish & Connect Launches “Shared Supper Circles” Amidst Government Shutdown

ST. GEORGE, UT – When our community faces challenges, that’s exactly when we need to come together stronger than ever. The Nourish & Connect Community Foundation St. George Chapter is stepping up during this government shutdown by launching a critical, rapid-response effort: Shared Supper Circles. This initiative is dedicated to preparing and distributing delicious, hot, and highly nutritious meals to as many local families, seniors, and veterans as possible who are impacted by the unexpected loss of income and financial uncertainty.
The need for community support has never been greater. As I often say, “Taking care of one another is needed now more than ever.” This isn’t just about food – it’s about showing up for our neighbors when they need us most.

Leading with Heart: Chef Nola’s Personal Mission
This effort is powerfully led by yours truly, Chef Nola, through LouiseAnna Flava. You know me for providing Slammin’ Meals across Utah through my business, but now I’m creating even more impact by focusing my expertise and passion on those affected by the shutdown. This work hits close to home for me.
My commitment to this cause runs deep and personal. Having experienced firsthand the profound impact that scarcity and unmet needs can have on mental and emotional health, I understand that a warm, reliable meal is far more than just sustenance – it’s a powerful message of care and community support. When we provide meals through our Shared Supper Circles, we’re lifting the burden of hunger and reminding families they are not alone.
Food has always been my love language, and right now, our community needs all the love we can give.
Our Mission in Action
The current crisis of food insecurity is a direct challenge to the Nourish & Connect Community Foundation’s core mission: To cultivate resilient communities by fostering social connection, combating food insecurity, and empowering individuals through shared learning and mutual aid.

The Shared Supper Circles are the heart of this response, fostering connection while delivering essential nourishment. This initiative is also part of our Cooking 4 Causes Initiative Pillar 2, where we use the power of food to create positive change in our community.
When government support systems temporarily fail, community-driven solutions become our lifeline. These circles aren’t just about distributing food – they’re about creating spaces where dignity, connection, and mutual support flourish. Every meal we serve carries the message: “You matter, you belong, and you’re not facing this alone.”
What Makes Shared Supper Circles Special
Our approach goes beyond traditional food distribution. We’re creating moments of genuine connection and community support:
Nutritious, Hot Meals: Every meal is prepared with the same care and attention to quality that you’d expect from LouiseAnna Flava. We’re talking about real, nourishing food that feeds both body and soul.
Dignity-Centered Service: Recipients aren’t just numbers in a line. We serve meals in a way that honors everyone’s dignity and creates space for genuine human connection.
Community Building: These gatherings become opportunities for neighbors to meet neighbors, for shared stories, and for building the social connections that make communities resilient.
Collaborative Preparation: Our volunteer cooking sessions are where mutual aid and community connection happen in real-time. When we cook together, we’re building something bigger than individual meals.

The Ripple Effect of Care
Every Shared Supper Circle creates ripples of positive impact throughout our community. When families don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, parents can focus on job searching or managing other shutdown-related challenges. Seniors maintain their nutrition and social connections. Veterans receive support that honors their service to our country.
But the impact goes beyond the immediate recipients. Volunteers discover the joy of service, children learn about community care, and all of us remember what’s possible when we show up for each other. This is Southern hospitality in action – not just welcoming folks to our table, but making sure everyone has a seat.

Building Resilience Together
This government shutdown is temporary, but the community connections we’re building through Shared Supper Circles will last long after normal operations resume. We’re not just feeding people – we’re strengthening the social fabric that makes St. George a place where everyone can thrive.
Every meal served, every volunteer hour contributed, and every dollar donated sends a clear message: In our community, no one faces challenges alone. We show up for each other, we take care of our own, and we do it with the kind of genuine care and exceptional quality that defines who we are.
The path forward is clear, and it leads through our kitchens, around our tables, and into our hearts. Together, we can ensure that no Jomember of our community has to worry about where their next meal is coming from during this challenging time.
Ready to join us? The time for action is now. Our community is counting on us, and when LouiseAnna Flava and the Nourish & Connect Community Foundation team up, we don’t just meet the moment – we exceed it.
Let’s show everyone what Southern hospitality and community care look like when we put them into action. Let’s put some of that ‘South In Ya Mouth’ and some warmth in hearts all across St. George.
